British owner Phil Cunningham, who extended his thoroughbred interests to Australia through an association with trainer Ciaron Maher earlier this year, is set to open a stable in Dubai.
The principal of Rebel Racing, whose head trainer is the Newmarket-based Richard Spencer, plans to expand his operation to the United Arab Emirates later this year.
Cunningham, who paid $2.8 million for a Snitzel colt out of Humma Humma to be trained by Maher at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast last January, won the Stewards Cup at Goodwood earlier this month with Two Tribes.
“This is a hugely exciting challenge. We'll still have the heart of the team in Newmarket, but the opportunity in Dubai is huge," Cunningham said.
"Quite frankly, it beats racing around the all-weather in January - the prize-money and experience over there speak for themselves. The Dubai racing team have been incredibly helpful and made the process very straightforward. We're really looking forward to the challenge.”
