Run The Numbers is sponsored by Inglis

The historical statistics tell us that you have a better chance of sourcing a stakes winner from one of Australia’s two highest-grossing yearling sales than you do from the two biggest weanling sales. But as Run The Numbers reveals, that is not the case with the current crop of two-year-olds.

When Do You Just recently won the Listed Champagne Stakes at Ellerslie earlier this month, not only did he become just the fourth juvenile stakes winner for his sire So You Think, he also became the ninth stakes-winning graduate from the two major Australian weanling sales of 2023.

It seems especially timely right now to talk about weanling success, given those two sales, the Australian (Inglis) and National (Magic Millions) sales have been completed this month.

Do You Just joined Group winners Icarian Dream, Field of Play, King Kirk, Steel Trap and Tycoon Star and Listed winners Bona Sforza, Scenic Point and Shining Smile on that stakes-winning list, in what has proven, to this point, somewhat of a golden crop of weanling purchases.
