Magic Millions may be presenting the smallest catalogue outside of the Covid-impacted 2020 sale for its National Weanling Sale next month but insists quality will count when the 377 foals are offered on May 26 and 27.

The format of the weanling sale has been condensed, with its dates moving to the Sunday and Monday ahead of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, which runs from May 28-30.

The number of weanlings on offer has dropped by 89 on last year, with a strong focus on quality, with more than a quarter of those to be sold out of black type mares.

The sale includes two weanlings by champion stallion Frankel, who has only had seven southern hemisphere-bred foals sell at public auction before. Those seven weanlings have averaged $670,000.

Both Frankel foals will be offered by Coolmore, with Lot 15 a colt out of Group 1 winenr Amicus, who has already left two stakes performers. Lot 144 is out of well-related but unraced American mare Kapralova.

There are three lots from the latest crop of Snitzel and I Am Invincible and four foals by Written Tycoon.

The most represented sire is Home Affairs with 20 from his much-anticipated first crop while fellow freshmen Stay Inside (14), St Mark’s Basilica (14) and Wild Ruler (14) are well represented.

Other stakes winning mares with weanlings catalogued include Miss Mossman, Amelia’s Dream, Atlantis Dream, El Daana, Fursa, I’ll Have a Bit, Villa Verde, Delectation Girl, Shared Reflections, Long Time Ago, Shazee Lee, Agent Pippa, Te Akau Rose, Wawail, La Mexicana, Vergara, Vinicunca and Vulpine.

The sale has produced 24 stakes-winning graduates in its past five editions, including current Group 1 winning three-year-olds Tropical Squall and Veight, as well as Stay Inside.

“There are more horses across more levels than any sale of its type,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said. “All buyers will be able to participate on exceptional prospects across all sections of the market.”

“We are incredibly proud of the success of graduates of the sale – from current Group One stars like Tropical Squall and Veight to world class stallions Stay Inside, Pierro and Zoustar.”

“Whether prospective buyers are seeking a future star of the sales ring as a yearling or a life changing galloper on the track this is the sale that delivers more success.”
