Sportsbet’s second $3 million payout in eight days after Derby Day result
A Sportsbet customer has collected $3 million from a $1 Multi Millionaire mystery multi, landing all 22 legs across Flemington, Randwick, Morphettville, Doomben and Ascot on Derby Day.
Hot and High’s win in the final race at Ascot completed the sequence. The payout equals the largest in the bookmaker’s history, matched only by another $3 million Multi Millionaire winner on October 24.
The product works differently from a conventional racing multi, where punters pick their runners and the odds of each leg are multiplied against their chosen stake. Multi Millionaire customers choose nothing.
Each $1 bet is randomly allocated a pre-built combination over a fixed sequence of races, and in racing rounds each leg is a group of runners rather than a single horse, with the leg won if any horse in the allocated group wins.
Under Sportsbet’s product terms, groups are set using fixed odds when the round is configured.
The aim is to give each group a broadly comparable chance, though the bookmaker does not guarantee parity.
Groups are not redrawn after scratchings or market moves. With two groups per race, a 22-leg round has more than four million possible combinations, and each is sold only once.
A full-payout winner is guaranteed only if every combination sells.
Bets are eliminated at their first losing leg, and smaller progress payouts are available for consecutive winning legs from the start of the sequence.
Sportsbet introduced Multi Millionaire in early September with a weekly sports version offering an $8 million fixed payout across 24 legs.
