The emergence of Half Yours as a leading Caulfield Cup hope has seen the service fee of his sire St Jean spike to $11,000 (inc GST) this season.
Half Yours, trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, was an impressive winner of the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes last Saturday, qualifying him for the Caulfield Cup, for which he is now equal $5 favourite.
While bookies didn’t hesitate to wind in his price, even after a 1.5kg penalty was imposed, the farm which stands his sire quickly raised their fee for St Jean.
The son of Teofilo had served books of five, six, eight and seven mares over the past four seasons at $3300, standing at Brackley Park in Victoria. He has had 12 winners from 22 runners.
But a surge in interest after a strong campaign so far by Half Yours led studmasters Grant and Joanna Dwyer to move his fee to $11,000, more than triple what he stood for in the previous eight seasons.
Half Yours, who was purchased online for $305,000 by his trainers through an Inglis Digital Sale last year, will contest the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes next before contesting the Caulfield Cup with Jamie Melham in the saddle.
