A lightly raced Ole Kirk filly who hails from the family of Australian Racing Hall of Fame mare Emancipation has posted her first career win at Ballarat.
Stormbender crossed to lead her five rivals and rallied in the straight to pull clear for a 1-1/4 length synthetic track win over 1200m.
The filly was having her second start after finishing unplaced in an abbreviated debut campaign as a two-year-old.
Stormbender counts the 1984 Australian Racehorse of the Year Emancipation as her great-granddam and she becomes the 19th first-crop winner for Ole Kirk and her sire’s fifth of the new season.

She cost trainer Archie Alexander $150,000 at the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the Balius Farm draft as a half-sister to Kahhof, whose four career wins include three at metropolitan midweek level.
“She probably didn't beat much today, but she's won with a touch of upside, I think,” jockey Declan Bates said.
