Strong start at Goffs February
The Goffs February Sale kicked off strongly at Kildare in Ireland with day one turnover of €3,898,500 – more than double last year.
The highlight was a €220,000 Mehmas colt, purchased by Tally-Ho Stud.
“The horse is right but the price is wrong,” Tony O’Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud admitted. “We had to have him. We liked the horse; he is the full shilling. Trade is good for the good ones.” His son Roger added, “He is the best horse in the sale.”
A filly by Starman was sold to Kevin Blake Bloodstock for €120,000 to eb the second highest-priced lot on the day.
Of 239 horses offered, 161 sold at a 67 per cent clearance rate. Turnover jumped 187 per cent, with the median up 129 per cent at €16,000.
