Racing NSW has confirmed that it no longer harbours concerns with the Australian Turf Club’s ability to manage a possible $5 billion windfall from the Rosehill proposal and supports the club’s plans for two racetracks at Warwick Farm.

Warwick Farm may be the beneficiary of an $800 million upgrade should the proposed sale of Rosehill proceed, but trainers at the south-western Sydney track are concerned about the impact such a dramatic renovation may have on their businesses.

One of the key arguments made by the Australian Turf Club in its pitch to members to sell Rosehill is that racing’s popularity is on the decline. But the varying data on this crucial point reveals a much broader challenge for the racing industry.

ATC members will receive free membership for five years and up to $1000 a year to spend at the races as part of a huge incentive push for the Australian Turf Club to secure the approval of the sale of Rosehill racecourse.

A member decision of the future of Rosehill racecourse has been delayed again, with the Australian Turf Club embarking on a whole new voting process, with an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on May 27.

While compulsory acquisition of Rosehill racecourse is an option open to the NSW government, Premier Chris Minns has promised to live with the consequences should Australian Turf Club members vote down the proposed sale on April 3.
