Star Godolphin mare Tempted has caused an almighty upset in The Everest, ending Ka Ying Rising’s 21-race winning streak and holding off the Hong Kong champion to win the $20 million race.
The race evolved very differently from what had been expected, with Tempted sitting just behind the pace while Zac Purton elected to settle Ka Ying Rising back off the speed, wide with cover.
Chad Schofield took the initiative and shot Tempted clear at the 300-metre mark while Purton was hard at work on the champion.
Ka Ying Rising eventually responded and surged late but could not reel in Tempted, while Joliestar finished third.
