Tomato Toastie, a $140,000 Magic Millions weanling sale purchase who counts Group 1 winner English as a close relation, has revelled in rain-sodden ground to clear maiden ranks at Warwick Farm.
By Darley’s leading second-season sire Too Darn Hot out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Al Naifa, Tomato Toastie broke through at her second start for co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
She sustained a committed run to beat the Zoustar filly Pyrolysis in the 1200m race run on a heavy track.
Waterhouse and Bott trained English to win the All Aged Stakes and Doomben 10,000 at Group 1 level.
English is a half-sister to Al Naifa, a stakes-placed mare who has had three winners from as many runners.
Tomato Toastie was purchased by the Cunningham family in conjunction with bloodstock agent Jim Clarke at the 2023 Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.
Too Darn Hot, the sire of recently retired Godolphin star Broadsiding, will resume shuttling duties this year and will stand at a $275,000 (incl GST) service fee for the Australian breeding season.
