Inglis’ week of breeding sales in Sydney wrapped up with a low-key Australian Broodmare Sale, featuring drops in average, aggregate and median on last year and two lots selling for $240,000.
A day of tough trade saw 127 mares change hands, with 63 passing in, making for a clearance rate of 67 per cent. Just short of $7.6 million was spent, $400,000 less than last year despite 19 more mares selling, while the average was $59,783, compared to $74,509 in 2023. The median dropped from $55,000 to $44,000.
Twin Hills Stud swooped to secure Starla, the daughter of Snitzel and stakes-placed mare Houston Benefactor, who was carrying a pregnancy to Wootton Bassett for $240,000.
Starla, who raced in the Woppitt Bloodstock colours of Chris Waller, won five races on the track and produced a Home Affairs filly last year. Much is expected of the first Australian crop of Wootton Bassett after his yearlings were very well received by the market this year.
