Gold Coast Turf Club chief executive Steve Lines and his Magic Millions counterpart Barry Bowditch can only laugh when they consider the misfortune the pair has endured surrounding their biggest days in recent years.

Feature meetings have been postponed or transferred due to weather and unsafe tracks and, early this year on the eve of the Magic Millions carnival, a section of the Gold Coast surface around the home turn was tampered with, leading to The Sunlight slot race meeting moved to the Sunshine Coast instead of on the glitter strip.

After a week of drama, the surface issue was rectified in time for the Magic Millions race day, only for the card to be called off after three races when stewards had no other option due to torrential rain.
