WA racing broadcast enhanced by new tracking technology

Racing and Wagering WA (RWWA) has partnered with French technology company McLloyd to introduce in-race timing and tracking data to live thoroughbred and harness racing broadcasts, with Western Australia to become the first Australian jurisdiction to use the company’s technology.

The system will initially be rolled out at Ascot and Belmont Park for thoroughbred racing and Gloucester Park for harness racing, with the data also available through the Racing WA website.

The technology will provide live race graphics showing horse positions and other tracking information, including sectional times used by punters to assess race performance.

RWWA chief racing officer David Hunter said the system would improve the presentation and accessibility of racing while providing opportunities for further technological development.

“Racing WA continues to invest in technology that improves the integrity, presentation and accessibility of our racing product,” Hunter said.

“The partnership with McLloyd gives us a modern timing and tracking platform capable of supporting current racing requirements, while also providing opportunities for future innovation.

“I am excited to see the system implemented across our metropolitan thoroughbred and harness venues and look forward to the benefits it will deliver for industry participants, punters and racing fans alike.”

The new technology will be operational from November 14.
