Group 1 winner Warmonger is set to be sidelined for at least 12 months after suffering a tendon injury.

Part-owner and RSN Racing Pulse host Michael Felgate confirmed the setback for the 2024 Queensland Derby winner on air on Monday.

“Warmonger will miss the spring carnival, he will be out for 12 months. I had chat with Mick Price and he said, it’s certainly at the high end of the scale as far as tendons are concerned,” Felgate said.

The rising five-year-old son of War Decree will undergo surgery on the injury.

A 10-length winner of the Queensland Derby in June 2024, Warmonger was high up in Cup markets last year and finished eighth in the Caulfield Cup.

The highlight of his three runs in the autumn was a second in the Randwick City Stakes in March.

He has won three of his 16 starts for trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr and owners OTI and has won over $1.1 million.
