Whitby assesses Cool Archie stud future after retirement

Owner Max Whitby is negotiating with several studs over the future home of his Group 1-winning colt Cool Archie, who was retired this week.

The three-year-old’s racing career was brought to a close after he suffered a leg injury ahead of his comeback in December.

Whitby told Racenet that he had opted to retire Cool Archie and not give him another 12 months to recover from a complex injury behind his knee.

He is now speaking to several studs over where to stand the Cool Aza Beel stallion, who won five of his nine starts as a two-year-old, including the Group 1 JJ Atkins at his final start.

“I’ve got probably five or six studs interested,” Whitby said. “There is one prominent New South Wales Stud that is well advanced in negotiations with me.”
