Highly experienced industry professional Mark Ford will join Widden Stud as manager of its Victorian farm at Riddells Creek.

With more than three decades of experience in thoroughbred breeding, training and farm management across international settings, Widden says Ford will bring a wealth of knowledge and a hands-on approach to all aspects of Widden’s stud operations.

Ford’s appointment comes after managing Wyadup Valley Farm in Lancefield for the past two years.

His diverse background in breeding and farming spans both boutique, family-run farms and large-scale commercial operations.

“With its proud history, Widden holds an iconic place in the Australian thoroughbred industry,” Ford said.

“It’s a privilege to be joining the Victorian team of a farm I have such great respect for, and I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to their continued success by bringing my passion and strong work ethic to the role.”

Widden principal Antony Thompson said having Ford on board was part of the evolution of Widden’s Victorian operation.

“Mark’s versatility and long-standing dedication to the industry will help guide Widden Victoria through its next chapter of innovation and growth,” he said.

After graduating from the University of Cape Town with a Diploma in Veterinary Science, Ford began his career in South Africa in stud management.

He has also held industry roles in Zimbabwe, Queensland and Western Australia, including successful stints as a racehorse trainer and equine behaviour specialist.
