I Am Unstoppable has become the latest three-year-old stallion prospect to be secured by a major stud, with Widden Stud buying into the I Am Invincible colt after his recent second in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
Widden and the colt’s trainers, Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans, confirmed that I Am Unstoppable will race on with Widden’s involvement in the autumn as he chases a Group 1 win to frank his stallion credentials.
The original owners in the colt will remain in the ownership until the end of the 2024 racing season in a deal brokered by Kennewell’s long-time bloodstock agent Mathew Becker.
"He will remain with Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans, as they've done a terrific job with him to date and our initial target races will be the Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes and Group 1 VRC Newmarket Handicap early in the new year," Widden Stud's Antony Thompson said.
"He finished his spring in top form and has gone to the paddock a sound and happy horse, so we anticipate he can be a real force in the sprinting ranks next year."
"He is an outstanding physical specimen; a real Bull with serious strength, a quality head and great masculinity.
"Plus, he's beautifully-balanced and is everything you expect when you think of an exceptional I Am Invincible."
Widden will offer 20 shares of the 40-share syndicate to clients.
Thompson also revealed he had tried to negotiate to purchase the three-year-old before his Coolmore run. It is the third time Widden will stand a runner-up from that Flemington race, after Zousain (2018) and Bruckner (2021), while it also stands 2013 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Zoustar.
A $65,000 yearling purchase through the Newgate draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, I Am Unstoppable won on debut at Morphettville in March before claiming the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes at his second start.
He was tremendously consistent without winning through his three-year-old spring campaign, finishing third in the Vain Stakes and runner up in the Poseidon Stakes and Danehill Stakes before he was beaten by 1.25 lengths by Ozzmosis in the Flemington feature.
He will now be aimed at the Lightning Stakes and Newmarket Handicap, both down the Flemington straight, in the autumn, with significant kickers built in to the deal to further reward the colt’s original ownership should he progress to a Group 1 win in the future.
When he eventually retires to Widden – whether that be in New South Wales or Victoria is yet to be determined - he would become the second son of champion sire I Am Invincible to stand at the famous Thompson-family farm, joining Overshare.
He becomes the latest of the current crop of three-year-olds whose stud future has been locked away.
Newgate had already bought into Ozzmosis ahead of his win, while it has also secured the stud future of Golden Rose winner Militarize through its ownership involvement with that colt.
