Zocketman backed up two barrier trial performances with an impressive first-start victory at Muswellbrook on Tuesday, providing young Widden stallion Zousain with his ninth juvenile winner this season.
Trained by Richard and Will Freedman, Zocketman was allowed to drift back to last from a wide barrier by apprentice Braith Nock before easing widest in the straight score by 1.8 lengths in the Magic Millions 2YO Handicap (1000m).
“I let him be early. (We) wanted a bit of cover and it didn’t like we were going to get any, so we ended up back last,” Nock told Sky Racing.
“He travelled up really well when I let him off the bridle. It was only his second or third time doing it.”
Still a colt, Zocketman was an $80,000 purchase at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by Still Point Equine and the late Sam Kavanagh.
Zousain, the sire of three stakes winners including two black type winners from his second crop, will stand for a fee of $27,500 (inc GST) this season.
