In this week's Rowe On Monday, Tim Rowe catches up with Magic Millions recruit Thomas Yeung, finds out why the sky is the limit for Nepotism and discovers a contrarian industry view on tariffs.

Yeung ready for next racing chapter

Thomas Yeung’s first ride was a winner, at Taree on the NSW mid-north coast in 2001, and his last was at Port Hedland the top of Western Australia 12 years later.

But Hong Kong’s Yeung, who was apprenticed to Port Macquarie trainer Neil Godbolt and later Grafton-based Phil McLeod, never saw himself as just a career jockey.

He received more than a few “are you sure” questions from trainers and confidantes when he called it quits in 2009 despite enjoying the financial trappings that came with the ability to match it with the likes of Douglas Whyte, Brett Prebble and a then young Zac Purton at Hong Kong’s Sha Tin and Happy Valley racecourses.

He retired to study for a commerce degree at Curtin University in Perth and, once completed, he briefly made a comeback to the saddle, riding throughout the vast regions of Western Australia on turf and dirt tracks.
