Yulong made a low key entrance on the opening day of the Tattersalls July Sale in the UK on Tuesday, buying three three fillies and mares for a relatively modest 137,000 guineas (A$299,368).

Yulong principal Zhang Yuesheng, known for his unrelenting thirst for bloodstock including paying 2.7 million guineas for subsequent Cox Plate heroine Via Sistina out of Tattersalls’ Newmarket sales ring, bought the unraced filly Carduel, a daughter of Camelot out of Group 2 winner Endless Time.

Signing under his Willingham banner, Zhang also bought Invincible Spirit mare Zepparella, a half-sister to stakes winners Prince Eiji and Zagato, for 52,000 guineas and Shamardal mare Shardia for 30,000 guineas.

There were 192 lots sold during the opening of three selling sessions, with the day achieving turnover of 4.427 million guineas, a decrease of 13 per cent year on year.
