Bowman closing in on International Jockeys’ Championship berth

Australia’s Hugh Bowman is locked in a tussle with South African rider Luke Ferraris for the final place in the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC).

Bowman edged to within one victory of Ferraris on the jockeys’ table after piloting Francis Lui’s Do Your Part to success at Sha Tin on Sunday.

He trails Ferraris 14-15 with only the Happy Valley meeting left on Wednesday before the final selection is decided by premiership standings.

Bowman won the IJC in 2016.

The battle for the homegrown rider’s berth will also be decided at Happy Valley after Vincent Ho and Jerry Chau both struck at Sha Tin.

Ho leads Chau with 11 wins to 10.
