Top NSW bush sprinter Front Page retired

Top NSW country-trained sprinter Front Page, twice placed in the Group 1 The Galaxy, has run his last race.

Time was called on the career of the homebred nine-year-old, who started his career with the now retired Geoff Duryea at Corowa before transferring to Matt Dale in mid-2023, after his last-start third in the Listed Starlight Stakes at Rosehill on November 29.

By Magnus out of the Duryea-trained Stacey Lee, Front Page won eight of his 32 starts and banked $3.62 million in prize money, with $2 million of that courtesy of back-to-back wins in the Kosciuszko, a $2 million race restricted to NSW country-trained horses.

He was tested at Group 1 level on eight occasions, with his best effort when runner-up to Private Harry in this year’s edition at Rosehill.

Front Page has an older sister, the stakes-placed News Girl, who was sold to Two Bays Farm, while the sprinter’s owners also retained a winning Rubick half-sister, Group Chat, and the unraced sister Corningstone. Both are in training with Dale.
