Cool Archie injured on eve of Gold Edition comeback

Group 1-winning colt Cool Archie has been sidelined by injury just days before his planned summer carnival return.

The Chris and Corey Munce-trained three-year-old, who won five straight races last preparation which ended with his Group 1 JJ Atkins success, was found to have a minor knee issue after trackwork at Eagle Farm on Tuesday.

The severity of the injury to the son of Cool Aza Beel, a $100,000 purchase by North Bloodstock’s Mick Malone for owner Max Whitby, is unknown at this stage.

Cool Archie was to resume in the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm on his way to the $3 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on the Gold Coast on January 17.

Entries for the Gold Edition also include the unbeaten Plaintiff, a John Camilleri-owned daughter of Zoustar trained by Peter Snowden, while trainer Kelly Schweida’s Grafterburners will be out to make it a hat-trick of wins this campaign in the $200,000 race.
