Piedmont lives up to family name
Well-related Pinatubo filly Piedmont, a daughter of four-time Group 1 winner Guelph, continued the family tradition with an impressive maiden victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Prepared by Ciaron Maher, Piedmont showed the benefit of race experience at just her second start, taking out the 1250-metre contest in convincing fashion.
After finishing third on debut at Canterbury earlier this month, the bay filly stepped forward significantly under Regan Bayliss, defeating Home Affairs filly Affari.
“She’s a pretty smart filly and has a lot of good attributes to her,” Bayliss said. “She’s got a good brain, great action and a really good attitude. She pinged out, relaxed well and showed a good turn of foot in the straight.”
She is the fifth winner from seven runners out of Guelph and is a half-sister to Group winners Encryption and Emanate.
