Perfect 10 for Waller as Matusalem scores at Wyong

Chris Waller has continued his dominance of the Wyong Cup, with Matusalem providing the champion trainer with his 10th victory in the $250,000 Listed feature race.

Jockey James McDonald, who made the trip to the NSW Central Coast for two rides on the feature card, gave Matusalem the run of the race in third on the fence trailing Eliyass before gaining clear running in the straight to score narrowly over Anythink Goes.

Elliptical, a stablemate of the winner, sustained a wide run to finish third.

McDonald said the six-year-old gelding was entitled to win by a bigger margin than he did.

“I can see why he hasn’t strung a few together, because he was going to win by a couple of lengths, or let’s just say a length, and he just pricked the ears and decided his job was done and floated around,” McDonald told Sky Racing.

“But it’s good to win the race again, and Chris and his team have got a great record in this race.”

Bred by Arrowfield and Hermitage Thoroughbreds, Matusalem also won the 2025 Albury Cup.
