Bellatrix Star headlines deep Inglis Digital September Sale
The multiple stakes winner Bellatrix Star will go under the hammer next week as the headline act in a strong Inglis Digital September (Early) Sale catalogue that offers breeders plenty of options at the start of the new breeding season.
The 275-lot catalogue features a mix of race fillies, broodmares, yearlings and breeding prospects, but it is Bellatrix Star who is expected to attract the most attention.
A daughter of Star Witness, Bellatrix Star won four stakes races during a career cut short after just 13 starts.
A Group 2 winner at two, she returned at three to enjoy a breakout spring campaign, reeling off three consecutive black-type victories before chasing home Switzerland in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington
She is one of only a handful of fillies to have placed in the Coolmore Stud Stakes in the past decade.
Inglis Bloodstock Sales Manager Brett Gilding believes buyers will have little trouble finding reasons to like her.
“James Price inspected her at Cranbourne earlier this week and said she’s a beauty,” Gilding said.
“I have pestered John Galvin repeatedly about selling her and while it’s disappointing that he and his partners probably never got to see the very best of her, we’re determined to get them the very best result that we can through the sale.”
Gilding was equally bullish about her future in the breeding barn.
“She makes a hell of a lot of appeal and it’s fairly obvious that she’s going to breed million-dollar yearlings for someone if she breeds them looking like her,” he said.
While Bellatrix Star dominates the catalogue, several other mares are expected to generate strong interest.
Among them are Aeolian, a Fastnet Rock mare bred on an internationally proven Fastnet Rock-Dubawi-Galileo cross, and Chatterley, the stakes-performed Snitzel mare and three-quarter sister to Group 1 performer Mamaragan.
Broodmares Fly Lightly, in foal to Home Affairs, and Smokin’ Princess, a stakes-placed daughter of Fastnet Rock, also add depth to the breeding section.
The sale features 141 racehorses, 51 broodmares, 60 racehorse shares and 13 yearlings, with leading trainers and vendors including Ciaron Maher, Bjorn Baker, Lindsay Park and Michael Freedman represented.
