Randwick tipped to stay in soft range for Everest card

Randwick track manager Dave Anderson expects the track to remain in the soft range for Saturday’s $20 million Everest meeting, with the surface absorbing recent rain well ahead of the Sydney spring carnival’s biggest day.

Randwick has received 77.4mm of rain this week, including 1.3mm on Wednesday and another 9.3mm in showers on Thursday morning, but Anderson said the track has continued to drain well.

“The profile seems to be draining exceptionally well for this time,” Anderson said in an Australian Turf Club track update.

The track was rated a Soft 7 on Thursday, with Anderson expecting little movement in the rating before the weekend.

Friday’s forecast includes about 3-4mm of rain, followed by increasing sunshine in the afternoon, when the track will receive its final cut ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

Around 1.6mm of rain is predicted on Saturday morning, with sunshine expected to increase from about 10.30am.

“We’re looking into that soft range for the weekend and we’ll see how it is and keep assessing it over the next few days,” Anderson said.
