Late entry Land Legend to add tempo to Cox Plate field

Hong Kong owner Bon Ho has paid a $200,000 late entry for shock Might And Power Stakes winner Land Legend to run in Saturday’s Cox Plate at Flemington.

The addition of Land Legend, an imported son of Galileo who upset Sheza Alibi in the Caulfield Group 1 over 2000m with a brutal all-the-way on-pace victory, will give trainer Ciaron Maher three runners in the Cox Plate, to be run at Flemington while Moonee Valley undergoes redevelopment.

His stablemates Light Infantry Man and Middle Earth are also expected to be among the acceptances for the $6 million race when they are taken on Tuesday morning.

Middle Earth is likely to back up after finishing unplaced in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup and Light Infantry Man finished runner-up to Cosmic Crusader in the Turnbull Stakes at his most recent start. Jockey Mark Zahra has been booked to ride Middle Earth.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Sir Delius will also accept for the Cox Plate as the Frankel stallion attempts to reverse is below par Turnbull Stakes run
