American wagering impacted by lost racedays

Betting on American horse racing slumped six per cent year-on-year during January, after a swag of lost meetings.

Equibase reported this week that total wagering of US$753,930,913 on races during the month represented a 6.09 per cent decrease over the same period from 2025.

The number of race days was around 12 per cent lower than the same time last year, with the amount of prize money paid out down by a similar amount.

Total number of race days decreased from 233 to 205 and the number of US races fell from 1,995 in January 2025 to 1,724 this year.
