Racing Queensland director Rebecca Frizelle has left her role on the board after just 19 months, creating a second vacancy after Steve Wilson’s departure in October.

Frizelle was appointed in May 2024 by former Racing Minister Grace Grace but cited a busy schedule as a reason she couldn’t continue in the role into 2026.

She recently acquired the majority ownership of the Gold Coast Titans alongside her husband Brett, while she continues to serve as the Deputy Chancellor of Griffith University and on the board of directors of the Organising Committee for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Acting RQ Chair Jane Seawright thanked Frizelle for her service.

“Bec made a profound impact on the Racing Queensland Board in a short period of time,” Seawright said.

“In addition to the great energy and enthusiasm she brought to the position, her incredible commercial acumen and business nous was to the benefit of the organisation and the industry as a whole.

“We would have been thrilled if she could continue, however, we’re mindful of her various business and non-executive positions and we look forward to her continuing to support the racing industry in other ways.”

The RQ board is now down to five members with chairman Wilson having stepped down from his role at the end of October.

There is expected to be further change after the government’s The Next Lap report recommended changes which broadened expertise. The Straight has been told the Racing Minister is already looking for replacement for the two vacant positions.

Seawright is acting as chair, with Graham Quirk, Jodie Jones, Christopher Edwards and Gary Heath the other directors.

Under the Queensland Racing Act, the board needs at least four members to form a quorum.
