Champion sprinter Bella Nipotina delivers first foal, a colt by Zoustar

The Everest winner Bella Nipotina has produced her first foal, a colt by Zoustar, at Longwood Thoroughbred Farm in Victoria.

In its announcement, Longwood said: “We are thrilled to announce that at 7:40am this morning Bella Nipotina foaled a lovely Zoustar colt.” It said the mare and foal were both doing well.

The arrival follows Bella Nipotina’s retirement from racing in 2025 and Michael Christian’s decision to send her to Zoustar for her first mating. Christian said at the time that the stallion’s pedigree and physique suited the daughter of Pride Of Dubai. Zoustar stood at Widden Stud for $275,000 that season.

Longwood secured Bella Nipotina for $4.2 million at the 2025 Inglis Chairman’s Sale, where she topped the auction and set an individual sale record. Christian, his wife Siobhan and brother Brad already held 50 per cent of the mare, and the purchase bought out their fellow owners.

Christian bred Bella Nipotina through Saconi Thoroughbreds and retained an interest after she was sold as a yearling for $80,000.

Bella Nipotina retired with 11 wins from 57 starts and $22.7 million in prizemoney, second only to Winx among Australasian earners. Her four Group 1 victories included the 2024 Everest at Randwick, she became the first mare to win the $20 million race.
