Angel’s dream debut hands Playing God a rare NSW win
Debutante Azure Angel became just the second New South Wales winner for leading Western Australian stallion Playing God, winning a Scone maiden in impressive style.
The three-year-old filly, a $210,000 buy for trainer Brad Widdup at the 2024 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, finished strongly from off the speed over 1200 metres to win by one and a quarter lengths.
Playing God may be a champion sire in the west, but his progeny are a relatively rarity in New South Wales, where Azure Angel was just his third runner, and second winner.
She races in the colours of Mulberry Racing and looks to have considerable upside given Playing God’s progeny tend to improve with racing and beyond sprint distances.
Bred and sold by Forest View Farm, Azure Angel is out of Hurricane Sky mare Angel Sky. The mare had another filly by Playing God born in August and she was served by Maschino in September.
