Applications open for TBA Fast Track program
Thoroughbred Breeders Australia has opened applications for the 2026/27 Fast Track program, a nationally recognised traineeship aimed at developing the next generation of thoroughbred breeding professionals.
Now in its ninth year, the program combines paid full-time employment on a participating stud farm with structured training and completion of a Certificate III in Horse Breeding through TAFE NSW.
Successful applicants undertake a 12-month traineeship, gaining hands-on experience while completing their formal studies. Placements are offered nationwide, with trainees placed in their home state where possible, although interstate opportunities may arise depending on demand.
TBA and Aushorse chief executive Andrew Hore-Lacy said Fast Track was central to strengthening workforce pathways.
“Fast Track is more than a job: it’s a comprehensive and well-structured career launchpad. The program gives young people a valuable opportunity to enter the breeding industry through paid employment, formal education and hands-on experience with some of Australia’s leading stud farms.”
Since launching in 2018, the initiative has attracted participants from varied backgrounds, with most graduates securing full-time roles at leading Australian stud farms. Others have progressed to international programs including the Irish National Stud and Godolphin Flying Start.
Applications close on March 31, with interviews in April. Successful trainees will attend their first intensive learning block at TAFE NSW’s Scone campus in May before commencing full-time employment in June.
