Winx colt won’t sell at Easter

The drawcard colt of the 2026 yearling sales season won’t be sold at Inglis’ Easter Yearling Sale, with the son of Snitzel and champion racemare Winx ruled out due to a setback.

Expectations had been high for the colt, the half-brother to the Pierro filly who fetched a record $10 million at the 2024 edition of the Easter Yearling Sale.

Managing owner Peter Tighe confirmed on Saturday the colt, who was scheduled to sell through Coolmore’s draft, would not be offered for public auction. The nature of the setback has not revealed.  

“The welfare of our beautiful colt is of paramount importance to us and the veterinary advice is that he will need a period of time to recover appropriately from his setback,” Tighe said.

“We will give him all the time that he needs and thus he will be unable to take his place in the sale.

“He is in great hands with the team at Coolmore and we look forward to his race career once he has made a full recovery.”

The ownership group, who were involved in the remarkable career of champion mare Winx, may now opt to retain him to race. There is still a possibility he could be offered for auction at a later date.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said it was unfortunate the Easter drawcard had been withdrawn,   

“It’s obviously disappointing for the industry as a whole that we won’t be seeing Winx’s Snitzel colt at Easter, based purely off the amazing scenes and theatre his big sister generated at Inglis Easter at Riverside Stables in 2024,” he said,

“We wish the connections, with whom we have forged a fantastic relationship with over the past few years, all the very best with their beautiful colt and hopefully he goes on to have a successful race career.”

Quinceanera, the Pierro-Winx filly owned by Debbie Kepetis’ Woppitt Bloodstock, has yet to the grace the racetrack. Now a three-year-old, she is listed as active with trainer Chris Waller, but hasn’t trialled.
