New Zealand's champion jockey Opie Bosson will return from a short-lived retirement, with the 99-time Group 1-winning rider to be back in the saddle from the start of the new racing season.
After retiring last December, Bosson's comeback isn’t a surprise, with the jockey continuing to assist trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson at Matamata as well as help out at Te Akau Stud during his layoff.
He will officially renew his association with Te Akau upon his return.
“It has been at the back of my mind for a little while now. I have still been riding track work, and there are a lot of nice horses coming through," Bosson said.
“I didn’t really lose a lot of fitness, and I have got the hunger back again that I lost. I decided about eight weeks ago that I wanted to come back, so I have been training hard.”
The fresh start will also come with a change of agent, with Bosson parting ways with long-time associate Aidan Rodley. Former jockey Michael Coleman will now manage Bosson's riding engagements.
