Victorian trainer Trent Busuttin continued his regular raids of the UK’s Tattersalls July Sale, purchasing a last-start winner at Southwell on a record-breaking final day of the Newmarket auction for 160,000 guineas (A$345,895).

Busuttin and Natalie Young bought Lope De Vega three-year-old gelding Time Allowed on Thursday from the stable of Andrew Balding.

The improving gelding ran fourth at Newmarket on debut over 1400m, third at Newbury over the same distance before his breakthrough win on June 17.

"We have been active buyers over the last three or four years at Tattersalls and we have had great luck with similarly lightly raced horses such as this,” Busuttin said.

"He looks like an improving and progressive type and fits the criteria to go through the grades here in Australia. He will be syndicated."

The session was highlighted by Wathnan Racing’s 775,000 guineas (A$1.675 million) purchase of last-start Royal Ascot winner Quai De Bethune, who landed the Golden Gates Stakes for Balding.

Australian Olly Tait, who oversees Wathnan Racing for the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, confirmed that Quai De Bethune would return to the care of Balding and be aimed at a Middle Eastern campaign.

Selling for a record July Sale price, the three-year-old has won two of his six starts.
