Champion sprinter Falvelon succumbs to old age at 29
Champion Australian sprinter Falvelon has been euthanised at Glenlogan Park In Queensland at the age of 29 as a result of infirmities of old age.
Trained by Dan Bougoure, Falvelon won on debut in the Listed Meynink Stakes at Eagle Farm and recorded six further consecutive victories before finishing second to Testa Rossa in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes.
Falvelon won at Group 1 level in the Doomben 10,000 twice and also claimed the BTC Cup twice and the Schillaci Stakes, while placing in multiple Group 1 races including the Newmarket Handicap, Lightning Stakes, Oakleigh Plate, Manikato Stakes and TJ Smith.
He also competed internationally, winning twice in Hong Kong’s International Sprint and finishing third on another occasion. He was crowned Australia’s champion sprinter twice and Queensland’s champion racehorse on three occasions.
“He has been a big part of life here for almost 23 years now and his loss is being very sorely felt,” Glenlogan Park’s general manager Steve Morley said.
“He was fantastic for both the farm and the Queensland breeding industry during his serving days and he has been a complete gentleman the whole time he has been with us.
“Having the honour of Falvelon as a part of our lives for so long is something we will never take for granted.
“He is now laying beside his old friend Show A Heart and, considering their many epic battles on the track and on the sires tables, I think that is a very fitting place for both of them.”
At stud, Falvelon, a son of Alannon, sired 418 winners, including 12 stakes winners 35 stakes performers. His best offpring was Group 2 winner Keika and Group 3 winners Walking Or Dancing, Madotti and Kindergarten Stakes winner Mr Profumo.
