Ciaron Maher Racing head of data fined $10,000 over false nomination documents

Racing Victoria stewards have fined Josh Kadlec-Cavanagh, Head of Data and Performance at Ciaron Maher Racing, $10,000 for providing false documents related to race nominations.

Kadlec-Cavanagh pleaded guilty to one charge under Australian Rule of Racing 229(1)(h), which covers false or misleading statements or declarations connected with the administration or control of racing.

The documents were provided to Racing Victoria Head of Handicapping David Hegan on September 8. They concerned nominations purporting to have been lodged for the Geelong Racing Club meeting on Friday, September 11 and the Donald & District Racing Club meeting the following day.

Stewards said Kadlec-Cavanagh created three tables which purported to confirm that the nominations had been lodged. The nominations were subsequently refused.

The inquiry was concluded at Racing Victoria’s offices on September 22. After hearing submissions on penalty, stewards imposed the $10,000 fine and advised Kadlec-Cavanagh of his appeal rights.

The outcome of the hearing was published in Thursday’s Moe stewards report.

Evidence was taken from licensed trainer Ciaron Maher, chief executive Sam Cavanough, Kadlec-Cavanagh and racing manager Rylie Morgan.

AR 229 sits under the heading “Corruption, dishonesty and misleading behaviour” in the Australian Rules of Racing published by Racing Victoria.

The clause used in the case states that a person must not “make a false or misleading statement or declaration in relation to a matter in connection with the administration or control of racing”.
