Coolmore aim for fresh flyer Pembrey

Tony Gollan has set his sights on the Coolmore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby day, with the three-year-old’s two-start Sydney campaign put on ice by the champion Brisbane trainer.

Pembrey was a brilliant first-up winner in the Silver Shadow at Randwick on August 22 but had her colours lowered in last Saturday’s Furious Stakes at the same track.

After finishing sixth, 2.5 lengths behind the winner Bangkok Hottie in the Furious, Gollan has elected to fresh up the Kia Ora Stud-owned homebred filly with the Coolmore Stud Stakes her next target race.

Pembrey, a daughter of the now Oaklands Stud-based Prague, was also beaten as favourite at her second start as a two-year-old before bouncing back to win the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes.

The filly had been mooted as a possible Everest contender if she had lived up to expectations in the Furious.

Kia Ora bred and also co-own last Saturday’s Moir Stakes winner, four-year-old mare My Gladiola.
