Dorrington to take on Lindsay Park’s spelling horses
Lindsay Park has begun relocating its horses after the devastating Longwood bushfire affected key infrastructure at its main property near Euroa in Victoria.
The 105 spelling horses and 23 retirees currently housed at Inglis in Oaklands, who were moved from Lindsay Park on Saturday, will be floated to Dorrington Farm, now rebranded as Nook Farm, in Nagambie.
Horses will remain at Nook Farm until mid-February, when Lindsay Park’s Collingrove property at Creighton’s Creek is expected to be ready to receive the spellers. The Collingrove property, largely unaffected by the fires, has been used previously for spelling, while newly purchased yearlings will be moved to Lindsay Park’s main farm.
The 23 retirees, who had been slated for Lindsay Park’s retraining program, now require new homes due to fencing losses at the main property. Lindsay Park is appealing to the public for assistance, noting that “many of these horses were in line for our retraining program but now need to be rehomed as is”.
The stable reported that training operations are gradually returning to normal. “As our major training infrastructure is located within irrigated areas, horses were able to safely complete slow work today,” the statement said.
