Entries open for Magic Millions as 2027 sales calendar set
Magic Millions has opened entries for its 2027 yearling sales series, confirming a familiar January calendar squeeze with Karaka while reshuffling the dates of its Tasmanian and Perth auctions.

Magic Millions has opened entries for its 2027 yearling sales series, with nominations now being accepted for auctions on the Gold Coast, in Tasmania, Perth and Adelaide.
Thursday’s confirmation that the Gold Coast sale will run from January 12 to 17 means there will once again only be a week between the Magic Millions season opener and New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale at Karaka.
The NZB sale is slated for January 24 to 26 with the Summer Session to be staged on January 28.
The Classic sale in Sydney will follow soon after with Inglis to welcome buyers and sellers to Riverside Stables from February 7 to 9.
While the cramped nature of the sales calendar remains at the front end of the season, there is more breathing space towards the end of the yearling sale season, with Inglis Easter to be held on April 4 and 5.
The Easter sale was held in late March this year.
In a message aimed at breeders and vendors, Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch indicated the 2027 Gold Coast Yearling Sale would be the place to set the tone for the year.
“The flagship Gold Coast Yearling Sale is the southern hemisphere leader for delivering vendors the best results with strong returns across all levels and a clearance rate (87.5 per cent in 2026) that is the envy of others,” Bowditch said.
“Importantly, breeders and vendors are able to trade in a market that includes the best line-up of buyers – a market that wants to get involved early at the country’s best performing auction, thus giving vendors a stronger and, importantly, a much earlier return.”
In a slight change to the Magic Millions schedule, the company has switched around the Perth and Tasmanian sales, with the Apple Isle auction to be held near Launceston on February 15.
Perth will take place later that week on February 18 and 19.
The changes mean that the Tasmanian sale won’t be held two days before the midweek Launceston Cup meeting as has been traditionally the case.
Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said the company was looking to build on its 2026 selling season.
“Following on from a successful 2026 selling season, we are delighted to present a world-class suite of yearling sales in 2027,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.
“We appreciate there is a choice when it comes to presenting your stock to buyers and we never take for granted the job at hand to give those who support us the very best results.”
“Competition amongst thoroughbred auction houses for the live yearling sales market is healthy for the industry. It drives commercial outcomes and supports risk diversification through providing you with a broad range of selling options to consider.
“We are focused on representing those who entrust us with their stock, and committed to supporting the sustainability of the entire industry’s ecosystem.”
The five Magic Millions sales, which include Adelaide and the March sale on the Gold Coast, Bowditch said the auction house provides vendors with options to best place their stock at a live auction/
“With proven performance at all levels of the market across our other auctions on the Gold Coast and in Perth, Adelaide and Tasmania, we extend a sales solution backed by our electrifying auctioneers, the marketing muscle of the world’s best and most innovative Race Series and a depth of buying bench which drives that competitive bidding buzz,” he said.
“Buyers love to secure Magic Millions yearlings – selling and syndicating made that much easier with the carrot of the $20 million plus Magic Millions Race Series – 28 races across six states with horses catered for races across their career at distances from 1000 to 2200 metres.”
Entries for all five Magic Millions sales close on August 14.
