Ex-players charged in alleged NBA betting scheme

Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis are among six people charged in a federal case alleging a coordinated sports betting scheme linked to NBA games during the 2023–24 season.

Davis, along with Rob Gorodetsky, Ernesto Plascencia and William Brown, was taken into custody. Beasley and agent Paolo Zamorano are expected to surrender to authorities.

Prosecutors allege the group orchestrated wagers on player performance, with Beasley agreeing to alter his in-game statistics while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.

The indictment cites at least four games in which bets were placed on “under” or “over” player prop markets tied to Beasley’s performance, generating tens of thousands of dollars in wagers and notable profits.

Investigators say Beasley, who reportedly incurred significant gambling losses during his NBA career, accepted payments from co-conspirators, in part to settle debts owed to Davis.

Games highlighted include matchups against Cleveland, Charlotte, the Los Angeles Clippers and Brooklyn.

“We are in the process of reviewing the federal indictment unsealed today involving Malik Beasley and Ed Davis,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement.

“Beasley last played in the NBA during the 2024–25 season and Davis last played in the league during the 2021–22 season. We will continue to investigate this matter and cooperate with the relevant authorities. We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and the integrity of our game remains our top priority.”
