Extreme heat forecast forces Wagga Wagga meeting switch
NSW race meetings are being reshaped by a blistering heatwave forecast to push temperatures well above seasonal averages over the coming days.
Due to extreme heat predicted for Wagga Wagga on Thursday, the Riverina meeting has been rescheduled to Sunday, where more favourable conditions around 32°C are expected.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for Wagga Wagga shows highs potentially reaching 43°C on Thursday and lingering around 41°C on Saturday before easing closer to normal on Sunday.
Across NSW, Sydney is also bracing for a heat surge, with forecasts suggesting temperatures climbing into the low 40s in western suburbs through Friday and Saturday before a cool change arrives.
Nominations for the Wagga Wagga meeting have been reopened with acceptances closing on Thursday morning.
