Favourite Big Sky lands ideal draw for Blue Diamond
Big Sky has come up with barrier five for Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield as the Bivouac colt puts an unbeaten record on the line in the $2 million race.
Big Sky, who has been dominant in two starts, could jump from gate three should emergencies come out. He remains a $4 favourite for co-trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr.
Stablemate Guest House, rated a $6 chance, has also drawn favourably in barrier five to give the Price-Kent camp a strong hand near the speed.
Trainer Ciaron Maher will have three runners, spearheaded by Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unit Five who is a $7 chance after drawing barrier 11. Stablemates Ghana’s Akan and Milsons Point have drawn seven and 10 respectively.
Closer To Free, a $201 chance in early markets who now shares the third line of betting with Unit Five, has drawn barrier nine.
Alibaba, luckless when third in the Inglis Millennium, faces a significant task from barrier 17, with Eurocanto (18) and Torture (20) have also drawn wide.
Fourth emergency Jacaranda has drawn the pole, leaving Sydneysider Lady Moscato in two as the likely inside runner if the field remains unchanged heading into raceday.
A field of 16 and four emergences have been declared with 12 males and eight fillies paying up at acceptance time.
