Godolphin colt Beiwacht on song in spring preview barrier trial

Dual Group 1 winner Beiwacht stole the show during a Warwick Farm barrier trial session as the colt cruised home in a 900m heat on Tuesday.

The Godolphin star, who transferred to Waller after James Cummings’s move to Hong Kong, led throughout under Nash Rawiller to win the trial in 53.99 seconds.

Beiwacht finished ahead of fellow Godolphin galloper Attica, the now gelded Spring Champion Stakes winner who is also preparing for a return after an underwhelming autumn campaign.

The three-year-old, whose two Group 1 victories came in last year’s Golden Rose and this year’s All Aged Stakes, will trial again before a decision is made on a first-up target.

Attica’s encouraging second placing also provided positive signs as he attempts to recapture the form that saw him emerge as one of the standout three-year-olds of last spring.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Tornado Valley finished third with ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Campione D’Italia and Yulong sprinter Angel Capital in the unplaced division.
