Stakes-placed Havana Grey mare on top at Tatts on day two
Aegina topped the second day of the Tattersalls July Sale in the UK when bought by Elwick Stud for 240,000 guineas as trade continued strongly with a 95 per cent clearance rate and 14 lots selling for 100,000 guineas or more.
The daughter of Havana Grey, offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, won a maiden at Dundalk after placing in the Listed Legacy Stakes and was purchased as a broodmare prospect with the option to return to racing.
“She’s a lovely filly,” Elwick stud manager Gary Moore said.
“She was the only one we wanted to buy and she’ll come back to us for a rest before we make any plans.
“We’ll do what’s best by her, we don’t want to do anything daft, but we’ll aim to send her back into training, whether that’s this year or next year. Hopefully she can pick up some more black type. We bought her to be a broodmare really, the racing bit is an added bonus to be honest.
Royal Ascot performer Capall Rasa was bought by Raj Singh for 215,000 guineas from the draft of trainer Tom Dascombe and will join the stable of Ed Bethell.
“He looks a fun horse and ran a big race in the Britannia,” Bethell said.
“He is really very progressive, and he’s got a nice profile. His new owner Mr. Singh is new to the game and wants some horses to take him to the good days – fingers crossed he’s that type.
Guardian Of Realm, a Juddmonte-consigned daughter of Kingman, sold to Colm Sharkey for 210,000 guineas after winning at Fairyhouse since the catalogue was published.
“We had a mark of 200,000 guineas on her, and were not going to lose her for a bid. We will be looking for some black type, she is a progressive sort and comes recommended. She has been bought for an Irish client and goes into training in Ireland,” Sharkey said.
