Inglis hails Victorian quality as it launches 2026 Premier Sale catalogue

Inglis believes it has raised the standard of its Victorian sale to a new level, after announcing an 806-lot catalogue for the 2026 Premier Sale, to be held from March 1-3 at Oaklands Junction.

Eleven siblings to Group 1 winners and the progeny of 15 Group 1-winning mares will be offered in an 806-lot catalogue for the 2026 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Inglis released the catalogue on Monday, with the Premier Sale to take place over three days from March 1 to March 3. There will be 579 yearlings offered in Book 1 on the first two days and 227 as part of Book 2 on the final day.

Among those catalogued are a brother to Group 1 winner Funstar (Lot 369) from the family which has also produced Group 1 winners Youngstar, Tofane and No Compromise, as well as a brother to Randwick Guineas winner Communist (Lot 542)

There are also half-brothers to Fenway (Lot 7) by Grunt, to Extra Brut by Ghaiyyath (Lot 19), to Streets Of Avalon by Bivouac (Lot 142), to The Mission by So You Think (Lot 218), to Baraqiel and Autumn Angel by Hitotsu and to Princess Jenni, by Alabama Express (Lot 611).

Bell River offers a Harry Angel half-sister to Thousand Guineas winner Another Prophet (Lot 321) while Yulong has a Alabama Express half-sister to South African champion Soqrat (Lot 595).

On top of that are yearlings out of Group 1 winners First Seal (Lot 61), Hurtle Myrtle (Lot 113), Mariamia (Lot 187), Nettoyer (Lot 229) and Snitzerland (Lot 350) among others.

There are 64 vendors represented, with Victoria’s biggest breeding operation, Yulong, featuring 85 yearlings in its draft.

That sale features the progeny of 110 individual stallions, including champions I Am Invincible, Zoustar, Snitzel, Written Tycoon and Exceed And Excel, while leading international sires Frankel, Kingman, Lope de Vega, Lord Kanaloa, No Nay Never and Siyouni are represented.

Inglis’ Victorian bloodstock manager James Price said the 2026 edition was well-placed to build on an enviable run of graduate success with 34 Group 1-winning graduates since 2018, including 16 that could have been bought for $100,000 or less like Benedetta, Griff, Mariamia, Gytrash and Santa Ana Lane.

“I feel the standard of yearlings catalogued for the sale for 2026 is higher than at any time I can remember and I know my colleagues feel the same,” Price said.

“The quality of the pedigrees, in terms of both stallion power and female families, reads exceptionally well. Our expectation was that the strength of the sale in 2025 – noting it was the first Southern Hemisphere sale of 2025 to post improved metrics year on year – would help us to consolidate a stronger catalogue in 2026 and we are confident that is the case.

“Historically the Premier Sale has been a hugely significant producer of superstars with graduates including Black Caviar, Starspangledbanner, Nature Strip, Bella Nipotina, Ole Kirk, Sacred Kingdom, Written By, Booker, September Run, Masked Crusader etc and I’m confident the 2026 catalogue will produce any number of stars as well.

“It is always a fun time to be in one of the world’s great cities in Melbourne and we look forward to welcoming our guests for the sale.”
