Injured jockey Kristy Bennett remains in intensive care
Jockey Kristy Bennett remains in a critical but stable condition in intensive care at Gold Coast University hospital.
An update from the Queensland Jockeys’ Association said she is expected to remain in ICU for at least the next fortnight.
“Irene (Kristy’s mother) and Bella (her sister) wish to thank the incredible doctors, nurses and staff at the Gold Coast University Hospital for the amazing care Kristy is receiving and send thanks to the Australian racing community for their prayers and well wishes,” the statement read.
“Irene and Bella also send special thanks to Tony Gollan and his staff who have been a tower of strength for the family, as have the Gold Coast Turf Club and Racing Queensland.”
Bennett suffered a fall involving a horse following a trial on Tuesday. She was treated on course by medical staff before being transported to hospital by ambulance.
She had recently relocated from Western Australia to Queensland in a bid to further her riding career and had been riding trackwork for leading trainer Tony Gollan as well as several other stables.
Meanwhile, jockey Luke Rolls was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after a fall at Taree on Friday.
Medical staff fitted him with a cervical collar at the track and he is undergoing further examination and formal assessment.
