J-Mac edges Barzalona as world best jockey for third time
James McDonald has been officially crowned the Longines World’s Best Jockey title for the second consecutive year.
International Federation of Horseracing Authorities confirmed overnight that McDonald captured his third title winning 12 of the world’s Top 100 Group or Grade 1 races.
Via Sistina was responsible for six of those victories, Voyage Bubble three and Romantic Warrior, Sunshine In Paris and Joliestar one each.
He held a sizeable lead throughout much of the competition, finishing on 184 points on the year, with Mickael Barzalona second with 132 points, while William Buick was third with 114 points.
A ceremony will be held during the gala dinner of the Hong Kong International Races on December 12.
Ryan Moore was the inaugural recipient of the Longines World’s Best Jockey Award in 2014 and has won it four times in total along with Frankie Dettori.
