Japan’s Stinger Glass being set for Melbourne Cup

Japanese stayer Stinger Glass, a winner from 2000m to 3400m, is being aimed at this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Trainer Yasuo Tomomichi has not been put off by the last-start performance of five-year-old stallion, who took out the Grade 3 Diamond Stakes at Tokyo in June, after finishing down the track in the Grade 1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin over 2200m.

Tomomichi wants to run Stinger Glass, a son of Kizuna, first-up in the Melbourne Cup with plans already being mapped out for the horse to head to Northern Farm to undertake his quarantine in Japan before flying to Melbourne for the spring.

Owned by M’s Racing, Stinger Glass has won six of his 12 starts and will be out to emulate the 2006 Melbourne Cup success of Delta Blues, the sole Japan-trained winner of the famous race.
